It's Not ALL Black & White - What is art?

"It's Not ALL Black & White"
oil on canvas - 6"x 8"

A big universal question that has been thrown around,
theorized about and created many debates in the art world is:
"What is art?" Everyone seems to have an opinion on the topic.
I find myself asking this question when I come across certain
works of "art". As this painting shows........I wonder what does
an all white painting or all black painting REALLY say?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm?

A bit of fun today. Punked out with some pop....
I think the image says it all!

Andy Warhol - 1928 - 1987
No other artist is as much identified with Pop Art as Andy Warhol.
The media called him the Prince of Pop. Warhol made his way from a
Pittsburgh working class family to an American legend.

Some of my favorite paintings by Renoir give this
image a twinge of humor.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (Feb.25, 1841 - Dec.3, 1919)
He was a French artist who was a leading painter in the
development of the Impressionist style. As a celebrator
of beauty, and especially feminine senuality, it has been
said that "Renoir is the final representative of a tradition
which runs directly from Rubens to Watteau.

If I haven't mentioned it before, Monet has always been one of my favorite artists of the past.
I think this little painting speaks for itself.

Claude Oscar Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926)was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein-air landscape painting. The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise.

Appropriate for Valentine's is a bit of Love @ the museum.
I thought you might like to see a recent commission piece today.
A client asked if I would do a young couple (like her & boyfriend)
in the museum, looking at a Renoir painting of "Dance at Bougival"
and requested that they are holding hands. This is the result.

Mother and daughter viewing a Kandinsky painting.
This painting made me think of clocks and time, hence the title.
I know that I have many images that are captured in my mind
of quiet moments that were spent with my mother.
Those moments in time are very special.

Wassily Kandinsky Biography - 1866-1944-(Russian born Wassily Kandinsky is considered as the inventor and theorist of abstract painting in the 20th century. In 1910 Wassily Kandisnky had seen an Islamic art exhibition in Munich - a highly decorative art style that does not allow to show images of human beings. The same year Kandinsky created his first abstract painting.
